Teaching Welsh history

The Committee ran a public poll during summer 2018, inviting members of the public to select from a list of potential inquiry topics. Nearly 2,500 people participated in the poll, with 44% voting for ‘Teaching of Welsh history, culture and heritage in schools’.

Following the results of the poll the Culture, Welsh language and Communications Committee agreed to undertake an inquiry to look at how Welsh history, culture and heritage is taught in schools.

The Committee held a stakeholder event at the National Waterfront Museum, Swansea on 21 February 2019

The Committee published its report: “Teaching of Welsh history”  (PDF, 1. 3MB) on 14 November 2019. The report looked at how Welsh history is taught in schools in Wales and made recommendations for change.

The report was debated in Plenary on 15 January 2020.
