Perinatal Mental Health – Follow-up

The Children, Young People and Education Committee undertook follow-up work on its inquiry into Perinatal Mental Health in Wales.


The Committee was keen to establish whether work undertaken since publication of the report (PDF 1,888KB) had made a difference.

February 2020

The National Clinical Lead, Swansea Bay University Health Board, Betsi Cadwaladr University Heath Board and WHSSC gave evidence at the meeting on the 26 February 2020.

October 2019

On the 1 October 2019, the Minister for Health and Social Services provided the Committee with an update (PDF 332KB). The Committee considered the update at its meeting on 24 October 2019. Based on the response, the Committee decided to undertake more work on perinatal mental health.

The Committee decided to:

  • invite the National Clinical Lead for PMH to give evidence at a formal committee meeting;
  • invite WHSSC and a representative from Swansea Bay University Health Board and Betsi Cadwaladr University Heath to give evidence at a formal committee meeting, in order to explore MBU provision in particular;
  • request a Chair’s Plenary statement at an appropriate future date to draw progress to the Welsh Parliament's attention in the Chamber.

May 2019

February 2019

Following the evidence session on 10 January 2019 the Chair wrote to the Minister for Health and Social Services (PDF 80.2KB) for additional information. A response (PDF 371KB) by the Minister for Health and Social Services was received on 7 February 2019.

January 2019

At the meeting on the 10th January 2019 the Minister for Health and Social Services was scrutinised on the progress of implementing the report’s recommendations.

October 2018

The Cabinet Secretary for Health and Social Services provided an update (PDF 456KB) on the report recommendations.

November 2018

The Committee consulted stakeholders on the Welsh Government’s response.
