Description: The National Assembly for Wales is a proud venue for Diffusion, a major cultural festival in Wales. Sebastián Bruno presents - Songs from “The Family”, a musical by George and Martha Lowman- a fully immersive experience, that combines installation, photography and virtual reality. Timothy Gwyn John’s Intimate Distance is underpinned by ideas about how we connect and communicate with one another. Richard Jones’ The Coal Face is a study of the Welsh coal industry seen through the physiognomies of the workforce. Ayesha Khan’s Standing Up explores the identity of Muslim women who must stand up for themselves whilst also educating people about Islamophobia. Diffusion 2019 features a month long programme of exhibitions, interventions, screenings, performances, events and celebrations in both physical and virtual spaces and places. The excitement of directly participating in the festival, and the international reach and visibility of the event, is further enhanced through printed and online publications, websites, mobile content and discussion on social media platforms. Diffusion 2019’s theme is Sound+Vision. The festival explores the relationship between sound, photography and lens-based media, and how in contemporary visual culture the transmission, presentation and reading of images is influenced by sound, and likewise how music is experienced visually as well as aurally.
