Consideration of Committee Forward Work Programme

Minutes:

1.1 Under Standing Order 17.24A, Hefin David AM declared his daughter had been diagnosed with autism.

 

1.2 The Committee considered its forward work programme.

 

1.3 Members discussed the Welsh Government’s legislative programme, and the likely remittance to the Committee of Bills relating to:

  • the removal of the defence of reasonable punishment;
  • post-compulsory education and training;
  • curriculum reform.

 

1.4 Members agreed approaches to specific pieces of work they had committed to undertaking, including:

  • Follow-up scrutiny of the implementation of its Mind Over Matter recommendations;
  • Diamond Review and in-year financial scrutiny: HE and FE funding;
  • Post-legislative scrutiny of the Higher Education (Wales) Act 2015.

 

1.5 Members agreed to consider, in due course, the scope of work on:

  • School improvement and raising standards;
  • Pupil Referral Units (PRUs), exclusions and Education Other Than At School (EOTAS);
  • Post-legislative scrutiny of the Rights of Children and Young Persons (Wales) Measure 2011;
  • Follow-up scrutiny of the implementation of its Flying Start Outreach recommendation.

Draft Additional Learning Needs (ALN) Code - working group with stakeholders (invitee only)

Minutes:

2.1 The Committee discussed the draft code with stakeholders. The evidence would inform the Committee’s response to the Welsh Government’s consultation.
