The
Committee considered correspondence on the petition and agreed to:

write
back to the Llywydd as Chair of the Assembly Commission to:
o
note
the Committee’s concern over the slow progress towards increasing the volume of
Assembly proceedings that are available with BSL interpretation or subtitles,
especially in the time since the petition was submitted in 2014;
o
ask
the Commission to explore the options for developing a programme for making BSL
and/or subtitling available for other Assembly Questions and proceedings within
a suitable timeframe.

the petitioner of the Committee’s decision.

to the Llywydd to request an update on any steps taken to make coverage of
Assembly proceedings more accessible to deaf people since the previous
correspondence received from her predecessor in May 2014; and

advise
the petitioner that issues relating to the accessibility of the Cross Party
Group on Deaf Issues cannot be addressed by the Committee and should be raised
with the group itself.

ask the petitioner for their response to the Presiding
Officer’s letter, and in doing so highlight the Presiding Officer’s offer to facilitate
a meeting to discuss the issues with the relevant Assembly staff; and

write to the Presiding Officer seeking clarification on the
work undertaken in relation to the pilot scheme and for further information on
the reasons behind the decision to put it on hold.
