I do not believe smacking is the best way to discipline a child but worry about legislating against it and the implications that may have. If a child were to tell school that their parent smacked them, wil lthe school automatically ring the police? What will the police actually do? Will the parent be arrested? Kept from the child? If a single parent what happens to the child? Do they go into temporary foster care whilst the allegation is investigated? What will the punishment be for smacking a child? If thi is going to be a crime that the police do not have the resources to fully investigate and take to court then I wonder what the point is.
