Making it a criminal offence to smack a child would mean that the Police and Social Services which are already overstretched and under funded would have to police this. It could lead to cases where genuine child abuse is missed and other areas where the public expect the Police to do there job are not being covered. The law already protects children from violence. Where they have brought this in (Sweden) there have been more child on child violence.
Do we want to become a police state where the government tell us how to bring up our children and how much discipline we should give them.

The barriers are clear it would take resouses from the Police and Social Services which are precious at the moment and bring fear into families where the parents are loving and want to discipline their children.

Yes there are always consequences from our actions. This would make it more difficult to police and use up valuable resources.
