About you

Individual

1      The Bill’s general principles

1.1     Do you support the principles of the Children (Abolition of Defence of Reasonable Punishment) (Wales) Bill?

— No

1.2     Please outline your reasons for your answer to question 1.1

(we would be grateful if you could keep your answer to around 1000 words)

I am a loving parent who care for my children and would never knowingly do anything to harm them. When ever I have need to discipline my children I have done for their good, on the odd occasion that it was felt that a light smack was needed then it has been done in a controlled way. If this bill is past then it would criminalise my self and many other loving parents. Those perpetrators of physical child abuse will still continue to abuse their children as happens now. This bill I feel is an intrusion on families by our government . From what I have read there are no statistics to back up claims that being smacked causes one to become violent or a bad citizen, in fact statistics seems to say countries that have introduced similar bills have indeed reported higher levels of violence and aggression in their younger generation.

1.3     Do you think there is a need for legislation to deliver what this Bill is trying to achieve?

(we would be grateful if you could keep your answer to around 1000 words)

I feel the bill that is already in place is sensible and adequate to protect families and children.

2      The Bill’s implementation

2.1     Do you have any comments about any potential barriers to  implementing the Bill? If no, go to question 3.1

Common sense should prevail and take note of the many ordinary people who are parents and have many years of experience between them that this bill should not be introduced .
