I was born in Barry and attended High Street School in the late 1950’s where I was caned on more than a few occasions. I then attended Barry Grammar Technical School where I soon discovered that several of the teachers were violent bullies. My father was not averse to using physical violence to his children, which on occasion included his belt.
I decided to become a teacher to prove that you could teach children without using physical violence to achieve my aims. I was proved right.

The need for legislation should be obvious to all. One person’s ‘slap’ is another person’s violent assault. It becomes learned behaviour and must be stopped.
